The 3 Most Influential Nigerian Women That Ever Lived

Influential Women To Watch In Buhari’s Govt
The forthcoming Gen. Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government will, like the current administration, parade many women believed to be influential, FISAYO FALODI writes
The outgoing administration of President Goodluck Jonathan boasts of an array of influential women, who command much respect even among their male counterparts. Apart from the President’s wife, Dame Patience Jonathan, who pundit say is always interested in official matters and those who get elective and appointive positions, it is believed that the influence of the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, and the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, made Jonathan’s administration popular.
The two ministers currently head sensitive ministries in Jonathan’s government.
Likewise, the inauguration of Gen. Muhammadu Buhari as Nigeria’s new President on May 29 will throw up another set of influential women. Some of the women were believed to have invested their energy in the March 28 pre-election campaigns in which the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate won.
The women, parading what may be described as robust credentials, braved all odds to

The Most Googled Products In Every Country Of The World
In popular culture, certain countries are
stereotypically associated with certain products — beer in Germany,
carpets in Turkey, electronics in Japan. But those things aren't what people are really searching for. Earlier
this month, the cost-estimating website Fixr.com put together a map of
the world with the most-Googled for object in each country, using the
autocomplete formula of "How much does * cost in [x country].
"While
the results are far from scientific — since Google autocomplete results
vary based on the searcher's history, the time of search, and the place
of search — they do say at least a little bit about how countries are
perceived.
Some of the fascinating (and troubling) results:
• People want to know how much a MIG aircraft costs in Russia
• People want to know how much a prostitute costs in Brazil
• People want to know how much rhinoplasty costs in South Korea
• In our own Nigeria Wedding topics were googled the most.

Delta State And Its Home-Grown Billionaires
Nigerians from every nook and cranny have found Lagos an irresistible land of dreams. It is the nation’s number one destination for commerce, manufacturing, finance, and the media, and even the movie industry, which is clearly evident in the pace and pulse of the city’s activities. Apart from being Nigeria’s commercial nerve centre and its major port city, Lagos is Nigeria’s former capital city, which was responsible for the attraction of the largest percent of federal presence and attention. Living in Lagos is exciting and opportunities and possibilities for the ambitious are almost limitless – sometimes elusively so. The city also enjoys the presence of the administrative and operational head offices of the multi-national oil companies operating in the Niger Delta Region, a system which started during the Nigerian Civil War, because, according to erudite scholar, Prof. G.G. Darah, ‘the military government ordered them to relocate their administrative and operational head offices from the Niger Delta to Lagos, then Federal Capital. In compliance, Shell, Gulf Oil (now Chevron), Mobil and others moved their head offices to Lagos. This movement also shifted most businesses associated with the petroleum industry from the Niger Delta.
Governor Amosun Of Ogun Stoned By TASUED Students
The Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun while on a campaign visit to Tai Solarin University Of Education, Ijebu-ode on Thursday, 29th January was attacked by some angry students of the State-owned university who appeared not to have forgiven him over his numerous attempts to initially scrap the institution. On his arrival to the institution, TASUED students on campus who became aware of his presence immediately trooped out in large numbers. Initially, it appeared to the Governor and his campaign team the students had gathered to cheer them. There was a wind of change when some students hurriedly brought out sachets water (pure water) and in a jiffy, it became a chorused act as other furious students joined in stoning Governor Ibikunle Amosun with various objects they could lay their hands on.
The Governor became ruffled before he was able to run to safety and quickly drove off with his convoy.

Death And Living Forever
Today I had the pleasure of speaking with some Christian evangelists...the man among them was quite sharp as he always had some kind of rebuttal.
We discussed God's purpose for mankind, his intentions for creation and intentions for the future of mankind
Now how do one know the intentions of a God, who can't show himself but hides outside existence
But this isn't even the point
The man said Humans were structured to live forever and not die but sin brought death.
Now if we are to believe this tale of Adam and Eve, taking the eating of the fruit as cause for death to humanity, tripping us of immortality...what do we say about animals? Did they sin too? Did they all eat an abominable food? Did the first Cow eat grass on a forbidden area?
Did the first star also sin? Like many of you should know...stars die too
Look at Nature, everything dies so others can live off it's materials
In secondary school, I learnt that the Earth and all those living gain a whole lot from the biomass of dead people, so if people didn't die but only kept procreating like rabbits and chicken, at a point there won't be enough energy to sustain us all and we would all die out eventually

Funeral Rites In Igbo Culture
Funeral rites among the Igbos is a tradition Igbo people perform for any adult that passes on. Igbos believe that any deceased adult of Igbo origin that is denied the gift of Igbo funeral rites never finds peace in the beyond, and will never be inducted into the world of the souls to enjoy spiritual rights there.
Igbos believe a deceased adult that is yet to receive her funeral rites will keep reincarnating and dying as infant and will never enjoy earth life or life in the beyond. Additionally, the soul of such a deceased will rise and torment her family members until the funeral rites are performed for her.
Any relative, male or female, can sponsor funeral rites in Igbo land anytime. However, the sooner; the better! The reason is this – Igbo tradition upholds the basic ideology that says: If a person’s deceased parents have not been given the sacred gift of funeral rites, she will never
SON Raises The Bar On New Cement Standard
Housing is a basic need. Several lives are lost
annually in Nigeria through building collapse. A
number of factors are responsible for building
collapse.
According to the Standards Organisation of Nigeria
(SON), the factors include-inability to undertake soil
tests before erecting a building, faulty building
designs, mostly by non-professionals, wrong/
dubious construction practices – most times
leading to deliberate misapplication of building
materials and other corrupt practices, lack of
qualified supervisors or skilled artisans at building
sites and use of substandard material, e.g. cement.
Towards eliminating the menace of building
collapse, SON embarked on the standardization of
the basic inputs in building and construction like
iron and steel, roofing materials. Having completed
standardization in other areas, the agency set out to
review cement standard. It adopted a holistic
approach as to ensure that standards are
maintained in all spheres of the building process.
Following widespread protests over rampant
building collapse, the regulatory agency took the
commendable step of immediate response to review
cement standards in the country. The technical
committee of SON consulted widely with

Ozo Title In Igboland
Across the length and breadth of Igboland, Ozo titleship is a major symbol of prominence. The title-taking event is typically organized with an abundance of yam, meat, wine, and other staple foods – all of which symbolize prosperity in Igbo culture.
A close observation of the Ozo title-taking ceremony across the states of the South-east Nigeria gives you an opportunity to see the slight variations in the way several communities organize and manage the auspicious event. Igbo culture is not a strait-jacket culture that is made up of meaningless rituals. Igbos believe in customizing and personalizing culture. That explains the variations you find in the way several communities handle the Ozo title-taking event.

4 Effective Steps To Burn Belly Fat- Flat Tummy Secrets!
Belly fat is a huge issue. Much of it will make you lose your shape, and also predispose you to various kinds of diseases.
The main challenge here is the ‘how’ to get rid of this belly-fat. Here are sure and effective keys:
1. Diet: You are what you eat! When you lose weight on any diet, belly fat usually goes first.
Foods That Burn Belly Fat:
a. Apples – An apple a day keeps the doctor away is the very old rhyme. Recent studies have shown that it isn’t just the doctor that an apple can keep away – it also wards off belly fat. Hairston’s research shows that people who eat 10 grams of soluble fibre per day [an average apple is about 150grams] — without any other diet changes — build up less visceral fat over time than others.
b. Green tea -Several studies suggest green tea promotes weight loss by stimulating the body to burn abdominal fat. Green tea contains catechins, a type of phytochemical that may briefly affect the metabolism. To get the most benefit, you may need to drink green tea several times a day.
c. Watermelons – Foods that are high in water content take up more room in the gut. This signals the body that you’ve had enough to eat and leaves less room for other foods. Watermelon is chock-full of water and nutrients, but low in calories.
d. Yogurt- What makes yogurt a delicious tool for weight loss is its protein content. A study linked eating yogurt to lower body fat and belly fat.
e. Avocados – This is another fruit that can help you lose weight, especially belly fat. It contains the amino acid lecithin – which helps in preventing liver overload – and aids the memory and helps balance weight.
Foods That Fatten The Belly:
a. Doughnuts: They can really bulk up your belly if you take them too often. A glazed doughnut has as much as 260 calories.
b. Ice Cream: You do get some protein and calcium from ice cream. But you also get 230 calories per half-cup, and that’s just for plain vanilla, no toppings.
c. Chips: A serving of 15 chips has 160 calories. Huge!
d. Beer: The average 33cl can of beer has about 150 calories. Those calories add up, just like anything else you eat or drink.
e. Hot Dogs: One cheese dog has 390 calories and 8 grams of “bad” fat.
f. Fatty Red Meat: A 300grams of this can have more than 1,000 calories and 37 grams of “bad” fat. That’s huge!
g. Meat-Topped Pizza: Pizza can be healthy. But if you like toppings such as pepperoni, sausage, ham, and beef, you could get more than 300 calories in one slice.
h. Burgers: If it looks big and loaded, it will bloat your calorie budget, too. Some have more than 1,000 calories and up to 75 grams of fat.
So you need to be very careful with all these Oyinbo foods!
2. Sleep: Getting the right amount of sleep helps. In one study, people who got 6 to 7 hours of sleep per night gained less visceral fat over 5 years compared to those who slept 5 or fewer hours per night or 8 or more hours per night. Sleep may not have been the only thing that mattered — but it was part of the picture.
3. Exercise: Vigorous exercise trims all your fat, including belly fat.
Get at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise at least 5 days a week. Walking counts, as long as it’s brisk enough that you work up a sweat and breathe harder, with your heart rate faster than usual.
Moderate activity slows down how much visceral fat you gain. But to torch visceral fat, your workouts may need to be stepped up.
4. Stress: Everyone has stress. How you handle it matters. The best things you can do include relaxing with friends and family, meditating, exercising to blow off steam, and getting counseling. That leaves you healthier and better prepared to make good choices for yourself.

3rd Generation Nigerians Abroad
What are you doing so that your sons and daughters abroad preserve our culture and tradition.....
On the 8th of July 2012, the Nigerian basketball team put their names in the record books as they qualified for the Olympic basketball event for the first time in their history. In addition, with that level of success comes with it a level of criticism. In the past weeks, critics have labelled the Nigerian team as “second rate Americans “ “Americans playing for Nigeria” and even SB Nation editor Tom Ziller wrote the following “Nigeria is a part of the wave of teams who have heavily recruited NCAA and NBA players with ties to the nation. Instead of focusing on homegrown talents, Nigeria and other nations have "recruited" players who never lived in the country or played in their youth teams in international competition”. Even more disheartening is the fact that a minority of Nigerians have also criticized the team stating that majority of the players in the current squad do not speak any Nigerian language, have never been to the country, do not eat the food, and are only Nigerian by name.
Regina Askia Writes On The Nigerian Woman And Societal Pressure
I just read a social media fight between two people I know and I chuckle to myself because my friend was blowing some hot words there - she was really vexed. Reading through the literary missiles, a few questions came to mind. Why is it that, generally when Nigerians fight their profanity centers around a woman's marital status, her age and to top off the insults, her private parts? Are these the yardsticks that we measure our women by? The marital status thing. Does it mean when a woman is not married she has no identity, she is less of a person or what? For a Nigerian woman to get any type of respect there has to be a man in the picture in what ever capacity? So it does not matter if you are wife number 6 at least you are wife? There is a vulgar saying that goes "Toto wey nobody get, na everybody get am". For real? That pretty much means that a woman unattached is nothing but a mobile body part that anyone can do anything to or with.....chaaii!!
Senate Queries Aviation Ministry About N174bn ($1.07) Debt
Nigeria’s Upper legislative chamber says it is demanding an explanation from the Ministry of Aviation about an astounding N174bn ($1.07) debt it accumulated in the past three years with neither authorization nor oversight, but analysts said today the Senate is a part of the problem. The order was given on Monday by the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Aviation, Senator Hope Uzodimma, who said during an oversight visit that his committee had no knowledge of the debt story, and suggested that the debt reflected bizarre borrowing and management practices in the Ministry. He also demanded the immediate stoppage of one of the unauthorized projects being implemented by the Ministry, stressing that he did not know where the funds were supposed to come from.
Be Wary Of Wikipedia, Says Scientists
Scientists compared Wikipedia entries with peer-reviewed medical research
Wikipedia, the online encyclopaedia, contains errors in nine out of 10 of its health entries, and should be treated with caution, a study has said.
Scientists in the US compared entries about conditions such as heart disease, lung cancer, depression and diabetes with peer-reviewed medical research.
They said most articles in Wikipedia contained "many errors".
Wikimedia UK, its British arm, said it was "crucial" that people with health concerns spoke to their GP first.
Open-access 'concerns'
The online encyclopaedia is a charity, and has 30 million articles in 285 languages.
